David Hussey took a blinder on the boundary in a one day game against Kolkata Knight Raiders last night. Its the catch we imagine taking on the boundary – it went over the rope, he bounced it back and caught it in play without stepping outside the boundary.
Digital Disciples
Having a coffee and conversations about the Lord, His Word, life and technology? You might be a Digital Disciple.
I met Gabe Taviano at BibleTech 2010 and Digital Disciples is something he started up last year to inspire the coming together of like-minded Christians who are involved with digital technologies in some way. Groups are meeting across the US and also the UK. I am planning on initiating a group for Cairns in Australia once Im back in country.
Its really about meeting face-to-face in local gatherings but also connecting with other Digital Disciples through a global network. I like that there isn’t a focus on any area within the digital world – its not just for technicians, software developers , photographers or videographers – it’s for anyone interested in meeting monthly to share some scripture, prayer and conversation about the digital world. Another opportunity for like-minded people to connect.
If you’re in Cairns and this is of interest to you, contact me on twitter @cdsmythe

Bible Navigator X
At BibleTech 2010 I attended a presentation from Aaron Linne (from B&H Publishing) who presented the Bible Navigator X – a Bible reader for the X Box 360 – not only is it the first Bible for the XBox 360 – it’s also the first book…….
Bible Navigator X includes a complete HCSB Bible, has search and bookmarking features and can be purchased for USD$5 or 400 Microsoft Points.
Aaron demoed the app on Saturday night and I liked how it looked. The highlighted verse changes as selected by the XBox controller, the theme can be changed to different colours, the font sizes easily changed, when shown on a widescreen HD television its a great resource for a small group looking at different passages. I can see our youth in front of an LCD TV Xbox plugged in, getting plastered with scripture. Cool.
Now that the text is on – who knows what we should be looking out for next:
- incorporated games – fighting battles alongside Joshua?
- movies, images and audio enhancements?
- virtual tours or interactive fly-overs across some of the locations mentioned in Scripture?
- shared online reading and discussing of scripture?
- game level styled Bible reading plans?
Great work by Aaron and his team!
Around the World in an Airvan
Two men from Bendigo (Vic) are preparing for a world-first circumnavigation of the globe in an aircraft totally designed and manufactured in Australia.
And MAF will be one of only two organisations to benefit from funds raised by the epic journey.
Ken Evers 33 and Tim Pryse 51, will depart from Bendigo Aerodrome on a day to be determined in May bound for Norfolk Island.

- Tim Pryse and Ken Evers
They will continue their journey across the Pacific to California via Hawaii then on to Arizona and New Orleans. From there they will touch down to refuel in Jamaica and Barbados before heading south to Brazil, then due east across the Atlantic to Africa, on to India, Vietnam, the Philippines, PNG and back to Australia.
The history-making flight commemorates Australia’s Centenary of Flight when the famous contortionist Harry Houdini conducted Australia’s first controlled, powered flight in March 1910, changing the landscape of flying in this country forever.
Ken and Tim will fly a GA8-TC Airvan over 26,740 nautical miles in 230 flight hours. The eight-seat Airvan is manufactured by Gippsland Aeronautics in Morwell (Vic).
The flight aims to draw attention to malaria, the world’s most common infectious, mosquito-borne disease, claiming over a million lives annually. Most victims are those least able to afford preventative drugs or treatments.
The pilots hope to raise one million dollar
s
to combat the global impact of malaria by inviting donations via the millionsagainstmalaria.com website to two nominated charities - Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) and the Australian Foundation for the Peoples of Asia and Pacific (AFAP).
People in many of the tropical and sub-tropical areas the pair will fly across suffer from malaria including Papua New Guinea where Ken Evers grew up as a teenager and was deeply impacted by the Work of MAF.
“MAF pilots are my heroes”
“For me, MAF was the epitome of aviation. MAF pilots are my heroes,” he said.
“Living in PNG and watching the work of MAF taught me the lesson that you can use the gifts you have been given to do the right thing. And of course in the case of MAF it is using the gift of flight to help people.
“I watched what MAF did in PNG. I saw my friend’s life saved (by a MAF flight) and now I want to offer my support. I think MAF is such an unsung group. People fail to see that MAF is saving countless lives every year. ”
